1978 Alden Dolphin
Alden Dolphin 47, hull number 13 of 13 built at Hodgdon Bro's. in East Boothbay Maine. All layers of bottom paint have been professionally media blasted and five coats of Petit two-part epoxy barrier coat applied, three coats of (hard) bottom paint, seven of the through hulls replaced, nine of the original sea-cocks replaced with ball valves; majority of the drain lines replaced, all of the copper supply plumbing has been replaced with Pex tubing, new dripless stuffing box has been installed, new cutless bearing also has been installed, the shaft and prop have been balanced and a new coupler has been installed, all the stanchions have been replaced, all of the standing rigging was recently inspected and deemed excellent; new Force 10 gimbaled range and all new gas piping installed; new cushion throughout, non-skid deck areas stripped and recoated with Kiwi-grip non-skid paint, the windless has been rebuilt and rewired though needs one bushing to be complete, the 85 horse Perkins freshwater cooled diesel engine has 3800 hours and runs very strong, the main and genoa sails are 8 oz Dacron and new, the mizzen and staysail need to be recut and fit, there are no deck leaks and no soft spots, the hull is solid 1' fiberglass below the waterline and the deck construction is balsa-core, however there is no rot or moisture evident on the insurance survey completed three years ago. Upon research when acquired, I found and purchased the original build plans that were on file at MIT, her history from the day she was commissioned is documented with these plans and a full set of drawings and specification sheets are included. What does she need? All the dirty work has been done. she is clean and useable but needs some finishing work. Wiring needs to be finished for some basic items but all new marine grade wiring was run, shower valves need to be installed, the headliners in the for and aft cabin need to be installed, I intended to install solar panels and complete her with d/c equipment. She can be sailed and motored as she is and she is ready for any modern creature comforts you want to install. One unique feature of her design is there is a huge walk-in engine room and easy passageways to run anything throughout making upgrades easy. I am selling her because my life plans changed. Calypso is currently moored in Stonington and being enjoyed sailing locally. Owner willing to negotiate delivery along the East Coast.
